On this day in 1936, the Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca was fatally shot.

And to mark the anniversary of the event, Literary Hub called attention to how Lorca predicted his own death — before dictator Francisco Franco came to power and began targeting him, even.

Lorca, considered among the most important Spanish playwrights and poets of the twentieth century, is best known for his poetry collection Romancero Gitano (Gypsy Ballads) and his play Blood Wedding.
