The library named as the best small library in American in 2017 by a trade publication is now making headlines — for all the wrong reasons.

NBC News reports that a conservative group in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, has demanded that the Boundary County Public Library preemptively ban more than 400 books it doesn't want to see on the shelves.

But there's more.

The group began a recall campaign targeting four of the five library board trustees because of their disinterest in preemptive bans and has publicly accused the American Library Association as "promoting pedophilia."

It's also engaged in enough threatening behavior that the library's director has resigned after just nine months in her job.

Organizers with the group didn't respond to NBC's requests for comments, but some of the Boundary County Public Library trustees and staff shared their firsthand experience with the harassment.
