Maybe celebrities find it normal to see themselves in books.

For the rest of us, it seems unimaginable.

Except, that is, for one Chicago-area preteen.

This '90s kid's heart was full of happiness for Rio Lewis, who auditioned for — and won — a contest to serve as the physical model of an American Girl book character.

That character, Claudie Wells, grows up in New York City's Harlem neighborhood during the 1920s, when Black art of all forms was thriving there.

Claudie's story is written by no other than bestselling author Brit Bennett (The Vanishing Half).

You can read more about Lewis's journey to become the face of Claudie in the Chicago Tribune.
