Today is October 3, known as Mean Girls Day after the scene in the 2004 movie where the love interest of Lindsay Lohan's character asks her what day it is.

What does that have to do with books? The movie was actually inspired by a nonfiction work: Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends, and the New Realities of Girl World by Rosalind Wiseman.

Unfortunately, we learned, the author doesn't have such a fond connection to the film as one might think.

In April 2021, Wiseman aired a number of grievances on a podcast about how little money she made off what became a blockbuster film and musical.

Wiseman told the host that director Tina Fey had agreed to help her share in the wealth, after the fact, but that Fey hadn't yet made good on that promise.

If you've seen that the relationship has been mended since then, by all means, share that news with us in the comments ...
