Author Peter Robinson, best known for his Inspector Banks crime novels, has died.

The seventy-two-year-old writer's publisher announced today that he had died on Tuesday.

Robinson introduced Inspector Banks in his debut novel, Gallows View, which was shortlisted for multiple awards.

Twenty-seven more Inspector Banks books — including the to-be-published-posthumously Standing in the Shadows — followed, along with a few other novels and short stories.

You can read more about Robinson in The Bookseller's obituary.
