A great-niece of Doctor Zhivago author Boris Pasternak has lost her copyright infringement case against a fellow Zhivago enthusiast.

Anna Pasternak had sued Lara Prescott, claiming that the latter writer's 2019 novel  The Secrets We Kept copied from her 2016 biography Lara: The Untold Love Story and the Inspiration for Doctor Zhivago.

According to the Guardian, a London judge ruled Tuesday that the passages in question both used the same principal source materials, so similarities were inevitable, but that the two books were "fundamentally different works."

He also took a dig at Anna Pasternak, calling it "extraordinary" that she had brought the case without having actually read The Secrets We Kept
