Author Hanif Kureishi has always been willing to share of himself in his writing.

With a recent medical crisis, he's taken that to the next level — real-time, autobiographical updates.

Kureishi collapsed while out on a stroll with his wife back in December, and when he fell, he sustained serious injuries to his spine.

Since then, he's been hospitalized, unable to walk or physically write.

But within a few days of the accident, he began sharing updates on his condition through social media and also Substack.

The posts inform not just about his physical condition, but emotional and mental conditions, too.

Readers have responded passively (with follows) and actively (with practical advice and messages of support).

You can read more about Kureishi's updates from his medical crisis in the New York Times.
