Sometimes the hidden treasure at a thrift store is simply a flattering garment in the right size.
Other times, it's a rare first-edition of a modern classic.
The Guardian reports that a manager of the Cancer Research UK superstore in Dundee discovered the copy of The Hobbit in the backroom on his first day on the job.
The store specifically only sells items for £5 or less, so they listed the item on eBay, where it sold for £10,099.50 (about $13,121).
This particular book was one of 1,500 copies printed in the first run; it includes illustrations by author J.R.R. Tolkien himself.
