A simple preposition often appears on the cover of celebrity-written books: "with."
But the Guardian points out that this one word isn't exactly one-size-fits-all when it comes to its full meaning.
There's the memoir that involves in-depth conversations between the celebrity and writer ... and the one in which the two hardly meet.
And there's the novel that results from joint brainstorming sessions, or something like the reverse of a James Patterson collaboration (in which the bigger name brings the framework, versus the other way around), or something else entirely.
In any case, does the distinction matter to the reader?
The Guardian explores the truths behind celebrities and their ghostwriters and everyone's duty to the reader buying the book.
