A survey of 2,000 parents in the UK found that The Gruffalo is the most likely choice for first book to be read to a child.

The Guardian reports that one out of every eight adults listed the international bestseller, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, as their top choice.

Another very familiar favorite among American readers made the top ten: The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle was number two.
