Authors and antitrust activists are adding pressure on the US government to investigate — and take action against — Amazon.
The New York Times reports that the Open Markets Institute, the Authors Guild, and the American Booksellers Association sent a letter to both the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission today; the letter asked for the government to end Amazon's "monopoly in its role as a seller of books to the public."
The FTC appears to be coming close to a decision on bringing an antitrust case against Amazon, according to the NY Times, and Amazon representatives are expected to meet with members this week to discuss the matter.
