Book clubs, in my experience, have a bit of a shelf life — members become too busy or move away and don't recruit enough people to stay afloat.
Bucking that trend is a Los Angeles club that has been together for twenty-eight years.
And all that time, they've been reading just one book: Finnegans Wake by James Joyce.
The Orange County Register reported earlier this month that Gerry Fialka's Marshall McLuhan-“Finnegans Wake” Reading Club was set to finally finish the notoriously difficult novel.
"We do one page and then discuss it for two hours. That’s why it’s taken us 28 years," Fialka told the paper.
If you're inspired to launch or join something similar, you may want to check out BookRiot's (partly tongue-in-cheek, partly serious) post on how to finish a book you stopped reading halfway through.
