  • Check out the longlist for the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction; the shortlist comes out April 21, with the winner being announced June 2.

  • Nonprofit libraries are being told they can no longer act as passport acceptance facilities — and this is especially noteworthy as politicians push for restrictive voter ID requirements and as federal agents aggressively detain and deport both citizens and noncitizens (Book Riot). 

  • About 10,000 writers have contributed to a book titled Don’t Steal This Book, which only contains the authors' names, that aims to protest artificial intelligence companies' use of their work without permission (The Guardian). 

  • Multigenre author Dan Simmons, known for the four-volume Hyperion Cantos and The Terror, died February 21 at age seventy-seven (The New York Times).
