Today we're interviewing bestselling author and 2025 Global Book Awards Silver Medalist Greta Sinclair, who writes cozy mysteries inspired by Nashville’s music and food scene, featuring a private investigator and her loyal animal companions.

She also pens an international series starring her Schnoodle, Mozart, filled with warmth and global adventure. Her award-winning novel A Very Sticky Murder blends family secrets, holiday drama, and culinary delights.

SADYE: What have been the most surprising, rewarding, and challenging parts of your writing career?

GRETA: The most surprising part of my writing career has been reinventing myself and realizing just how much time it truly takes — time I never expected to dedicate to the point of obsession.

Writing the book is only one piece of the puzzle. There are so many moving parts involved in publishing a successful story, and it’s a constant learning curve.

The most rewarding part is seeing my book out there in the world — watching it climb into the stratosphere and knowing it’s the culmination of my heart, soul, and countless hours of work. There’s nothing quite like holding that finished product and thinking, I created this from scratch.

The most challenging part has been navigating all the technology that comes with self-publishing. There are days it feels like the tech side is its own full-time job.

But the best part will always be the creativity — dreaming up plots, building characters, and inventing an entire world out of nothing. That’s the magic that keeps me coming back every time.

SADYE: What has been the most touching or memorable piece of reader feedback you’ve received?

GRETA: Some of the most touching feedback I’ve received is from readers who told me my international series transported them so vividly — through the sights, smells, and sounds — that it moved them to tears.

SADYE: Which period of history would you most like to travel back to and which historical figure would you most like to meet, and why?

GRETA: I’d love to travel back to 18th-century Europe — especially Paris, Vienna, and London. I’ve always been drawn to that era’s elegance, etiquette, and genteel way of life, and I adore period dramas set in that time.

If I could meet historical figures, I couldn’t choose just one — I’d be in awe of musical geniuses like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin. As a classically trained pianist who also played violin and harp, their music feels like home to me.

SADYE: What message or theme would you like readers to take away from your work?

GRETA: I hope readers take away themes of good versus evil, and above all, hope.

My stories also highlight the deep connection between humans and animals, and the belief that even in difficult circumstances, there is always a choice — humanity can rise above the darkness and choose something better.

In my Series 1, I especially invite readers to explore and expand their horizons through cultures, cuisine, history, language, and customs. Even if you prefer armchair travel, I aim to whisk you away to discover new places and experiences from wherever you are.

SADYE: Tell us something about your writing process that’s unusual or that you haven’t revealed before.

GRETA: I’m not sure my process is all that unusual, but I definitely fit the typical writer profile — I’m an introvert through and through.

Most days, you’ll find me at my kitchen table, working long eight- to ten-hour stretches while glancing out the window for inspiration — usually with my Schnoodle, Mozart, interrupting at the most inconvenient moments to beg for treats.

I typically take one day off each week to run errands, restock groceries, and reset for the next round of writing. And while I don’t spend as much time being creative in the kitchen these days, I still love making healthy, delicious meals to keep me fueled — especially since Mozart and my bestie insist on their own “gourmet” routine. Mozart won’t even touch her kibble unless I top it with fresh cooked chicken.
