If your book will be free for multiple days, we generally recommend scheduling your promotion on the first day of your free period.

Some authors believe it's better to wait until the second or third day, hoping their book will already be climbing the retailer charts before the promotion runs. In practice, we've found the opposite approach offers the greatest opportunity for overall exposure.

By scheduling on the first day, your book becomes eligible for additional newsletter appearances throughout the remainder of its free promotion. Starting later shortens that window and may reduce your opportunities for additional exposure.

There's no need to make your book free days in advance. As long as your book is already free by approximately 12:30 a.m. Pacific Time on your scheduled promotion date, it will be available when we begin preparing that day's newsletters.

For the best results, we recommend:

  • Schedule your promotion for the first day your book is free.
  • Make sure your free promotion begins by 12:30 a.m. Pacific Time on your scheduled date.
  • Keep your book free long enough to allow readers time to discover and download it.

This approach gives your book the greatest opportunity to reach readers throughout its free promotion.
