We want to say Jane Austen is back in style, but then we realized — she never actually faded from the public eye.

It’s safe to say, though, that a few modern takes on “the lady” have kept the media talking about her works.

For example: An app now delivers a daily Austen quote.

A YouTube channel called The Lizzie Bennet Diaries now exists. (Gigi Darcy and Lydia Bennet also star in videos.)

While you wait for the movie “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” to hit theaters, you can read a less-gory retelling of the classic by Curtis Sittenfeld (of “Prep” fame).

And Slate examines how Austen influenced present-day enigmatic author Elena Ferrante.

Prefer the original versions?

The Independent takes a look at Mr. Darcy throughout the ages, coming to the conclusion that he wasn’t always (in the paper’s words) “quite so hot.”

A writer for Bustle also heads back, but for the first time since high school, and makes a few pleasant discoveries about reading the texts as an adult.
