We hope yule enjoy this holiday-themed edition of Friday favorites. (Sorry, couldn’t resist!)

Steer the dinner discussion away from politics with some general Christmas trivia from Interesting Literature.

Or if you look forward to a debate over economic policies, you may prefer a historical explanation for why Scrooge became such a ... well ... scrooge.

You could also launch an impromptu trivia night with the Guardian’s Christmas quizzes, one for children’s lit and another for grownup books.

Some might prefer laughing over learning. Our gifts for them are Mashable’s Yule titles (yes, the inspiration for our opening pun), Book Riot’s literary holiday cards, and Complex’s most ridiculous holiday children’s books.

For traditionalists, we have the 10 best Christmases in literature, as chosen by the Guardian and its readers, plus Harper Lee’s 1961 story, “Christmas To Me.”

And we don’t mean to exclude our readers who celebrated Hanukkah or who plan to celebrate Kwanzaa, but most links recommended books for kids — not exactly our blog’s demographic. (We’re happy to share anything we’ve missed!)

What we can offer, however, are a few books that embody the spirit of Hanukkah ... and Hanukkah romances.

No matter what you do or don’t celebrate, have a wonderful weekend!
