The Passive Voice blog shared a tongue-in-cheek reason to have an open mind about ebooks — they’re highly unlikely to give you arsenic poisoning.

Passive Guy posted a link to Science Alert’s article about three rare books whose covers contain large concentrations of arsenic at the University of Southern Denmark.

Science Alert tested the 16th- and 17th-century books because it was previously established that their covers incorporated medieval manuscript fragments.

Arsenic “is among the most toxic substances in the world and exposure may lead to various symptoms of poisoning, the development of cancer and even death,” according to the article.

Learn more about the process of testing the books and the historical use of arsenic at Science Alert.
