It’s been a rough year for Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk.
In addition to the embezzlement scandal at his literary agency, he lost his father-in-law and his friend Anthony Bourdain.
Palahniuk, though, has found glimmers of hope in all the chaos.
He quoted actor Brad Pitt, who starred in the film version of Fight Club, in an interview with The Guardian:
(Pitt) said every movie is the antidote to the one you just made; that the real blessing of failure is that it is the only thing that gives you the isolation and time to reinvent yourself.
If you’re moving from success to success, you don’t have that daydreaming period that will allow you to come up with something new and unique.
Palahniuk also discusses his new novel, the satirical fantasy Adjustment Day, and analyzes why the “involuntarily celibate” find such inspiration in Fight Club.
