A letter from Ernest Hemingway has just been sold at an auction for $28,000.

It’s not just any letter from a famous writer, though: It details a fishing trip that probably inspired The Old Man and the Sea.

The May 8, 1935, letter was sent to the Miami Herald’s fishing editor and described how Hemingway and a friend caught a five-hundred-pound blue marlin.

If you read The Old Man and the Sea, you’ll recognize some of the novel’s details in the passages quoted in the Guardian’s article, which you can read here.
