Screenwriter William Goldman, who also adapted some of his novels into movies, has died at the age of eighty-seven.

Goldman’s books The Princess Bride and Marathon Man both became beloved movies, and he was also celebrated for such scripts as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All the President’s Men, Misery, and The Stepford Wives.

His partner, Susan Burden, told the New York Times that Goldman’s cause of death was colon cancer and pneumonia.

You can read his full obituary in the New York Times or also enjoy a British take on his career from the BBC.
