Ziauddin Yousafzai is probably best known in connection with his daughter, Malala, who was shot by the Taliban in an attempt to stop her education advocacy.

But the elder Yousafzai’s own journey of discovery and advocacy predates that horrible day.

He has written a memoir of his own, Let Her Fly, that describes his youthful realization of how unequal his society was, his founding of a co-ed school, and his return to Pakistan years after Malala’s attack.

The Guardian interviewed him in the days before the book was published; you can read their conversation here and check out his book here.
