Mark this down on your calendars: An awards list includes only male writers, and female writers probably feel just fine about it.

That’s because the honor in question is for the worst sexual passage in fiction for 2018.

Each year, the Literary Review hands out this dubious honor in order to “draw attention to poorly written, perfunctory or redundant passages of sexual description in modern fiction.”

The Guardian reports that acclaimed author Haruki Murakami (often a Nobel contender) made the shortlist for a scene in Killing Commendatore; another well-known nominee is novelist James Frey.

We'll find out who won — or lost, depending on your perspective — on December 3.

See who else was nominated, view excerpts of the offending passages, and also enjoy the delightful response from one writer on the list in the Guardian.

But, of course, be warned that the article may not be safe for work, if you’re not fortunate enough to share literary news for a living.
