Poetry aficionados and/or those frequently called upon to reject admirers gently will want to take note of an upcoming auction item.

Poet Rupert Brooke was a teenager when he wrote a letter to his lovestruck friend Ernst Goldschmidt urging the latter not to place him on a pedestal.

It, along with two unsent letters from Goldschmidt in which he describes his feelings for Brooke, will go up for bidding on December 13, reports the Guardian.

The bundle is expected to reach £3,000 to £5,000 (about $3,800 to $6,300); the contents were found among Goldschmidt's partner's belongings.

Brooke — remembered for his patriotic poetry — died at just twenty-seven during World War I, so letters from him are relatively rare, according to the Guardian.
