It's the anniversary of Walt Whitman's fatal chill

On this day in 1891, the New York Times reported that beloved poet Walt Whitman was expected to live only a few more hours.

This announcement followed weeks of similarly worried coverage of the “chill” Whitman had taken ... and it foreshadowed another month’s worth of such reporting.
