Fussy spent much of the past five days traveling and visiting with family, so we came back to quite the pile of news.

Surely no one missed that Audrey Geisel, the widow of Dr. Seuss, died at the age of ninety-seven on December 19 (the news broke a few days later).

Or that Alice Walker responded to the uproar over her praise for an anti-Semitic author’s works, without doing anything to douse the flames.

You may have missed (as we did), though, that the literary world lost two other members: Justin Cartwright, a celebrated expat South African author; and Jane Langton, an author who did mysteries and children’s books.

We hope that's it ...
