Happy birthday — or launch day — to the Oxford English Dictionary!

On this day in 1884, according to Literary Hub, the first installment of the earliest edition of what’s now known as the OED was published in the United States. (It had already hit shelves over in England.)

The dictionary’s website has a page dedicated to explaining its origins and evolution; Lit Hub, meanwhile, is marking the day with a roundup of movie/TV show introductions that use a screen-shotted definition.
