Many of us schedule our housework for Saturday and hate every minute of it.

Well, we’re here to act like your parents today and to sternly remind many (but not all) of you that things could be far worse.

Stephanie Land’s memoir, Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive, describes, among other challenges, the back-breaking work of cleaning houses to support a child by herself.
