A conservative campaign site has successfully stopped DC Comics from releasing a series that depicts Jesus Christ’s return to Earth.
The Guardian reports that the Second Coming series was set to launch March 6, but CitizenGo gathered 200,000 signatures on a petition opposing it.
Writer Mark Russell told the website Syfy Wire that after he’d made some minor changes to the comic, he was told that there would likely be more changes requested and also a delay in the release date.
Instead, he and illustrator Richard Pace requested the rights back — which DC granted — so that they could “keep the story intact and remain true to the original vision and get into the hands of readers in a more timely fashion.”
In the Second Coming series, Jesus returns to Earth, only to find that his teachings have been distorted and that more people worship a superhero named Sun-Man, with whom he ultimately partners.
