A long-lost Holocaust memoir has won a top award for Jewish literature.
Françoise Frenkel’s No Place to Lay One’s Head was first printed in 1945, but fell out of publication for decades.
In 2010, thirty-five years after Frenkel’s death, a copy of her memoir was discovered; it was only translated into English for publication last year.
On Monday, No Place to Lay One’s Head was revealed as the 2019 Jewish Quarterly Wingate Prize winner.
