The latest Pew Research Center survey on Americans’ reading habits shouldn’t be cause for panic.

Or, at least, there’s no new cause for alarm, as very little seems to have changed since the earlier part of the decade.

About three-quarters of Americans have read a book in the past twelve months, with the nation averaging twelve books a year but most frequently reading four books a year.

What has changed, though, is (unsurprisingly) how we read.

Print remains the most popular format, but audiobooks are seeing what Pew calls “a modest but statistically significant increase” from 14 percent in 2016  to 18 percent.

Check out the complete results on Pew’s website, including what percentage of us are hybrid readers versus single-format.
