The comic book starring Jesus Christ has found a new publisher.

Writer Mark Russell and illustrator Richard Pace had requested the rights for Second Coming back from DC Comics in February, after learning that pushback from a conservative site was likely to cause more requests to alter the comic.

AHOY Comics will now publish Second Coming, according to the New York Times, with the first issue arriving July 10.

Russell disagrees that his work mocks Jesus and Christianity, as protesters had argued.

“It’s not a satire of Christ so much as it is a satire on how his followers of the last 2,000 years have turned his message of forgiveness and empathy into one of power and domination, which is as un-Christlike as one can possibly imagine,” he told the NY Times.
