It’s been fashionable to joke about lawyers for decades now, and journalists have become popular targets as well in recent years.

So someone involved in both fields must surely have thick skin and nerves of steel.

Based on his recent interview on Fresh Air, David McCraw — deputy general counsel for the New York Times — fits that description to a T.

McCraw has fielded letter after letter from Donald Trump’s lawyers and was also among those making the call on publishing the first WikiLeaks information dump.

And he has recently written a memoir about his time spent advocating for an open press, called Truth In Our Times: Inside The Fight For Press Freedom In The Age Of Alternative Facts.
