We mentioned earlier that one of the U.S. poet laureates, W.S. Merwin, had recentlypassed away.

Based on his obituary and memorials written about him, he seems to have been a generally well-received choice for the post.

That, of course, is not always the case.

Emily Temple shared the story of a British poet laureate put on trial for abuse of the English language.

Okay, so Colley Cibber didn’t exactly step into a courtroom on charges of murdering English, but he received a very public literary drubbing for it.
