No foolin’ — we want to open April and the workweek with an uplifting story.

Last month, eight authors were happily surprised with the news that they’d won a Windham-Campbell Prize, which comes with a cash award of $165,000 so that they can “focus on their work independent of financial concerns.”

Writers never know they’re under consideration until they receive the call notifying them of their victory.
