That’s just a hair different: A ring that would be worth about $32 is valued at over $26,000 because of its connection to Charlotte Brontë.
Specifically, it includes a lock of the Jane Eyre author’s hair, her name, and her death year, according to its owner, and the jewelry expert who evaluated it says that’s extremely likely.
Geoffrey Munn notes that jewelry with a loved one’s hair was a common accessory in that era, adding that Brontë herself had a bracelet with her sisters’ locks in it.
The ring, discovered in a Welsh attic, made its public debut on an episode of the show Antiques Roadshow; the Guardian reported this news for those of us who missed the episode.
