Not all Lord of the Rings fans are excited about the upcoming JRR Tolkien biopic.

Specifically, Tolkien’s family and estate have distanced themselves from the movie simply titled Tolkien.

In a statement, which aimed to make their stance clear but which did not promise any legal action, the family and estate said they “wish to make clear that they did not approve of, authorise or participate in the making of this film” and that “they do not endorse it or its content in any way.”

The movie, which hits theaters May 10, stars Nicholas Hoult as the author and Lily Collins as his wife, Edith.

Those moved by the actions of Tolkien’s family — and the agreement from his biographer — may prefer to visit New York City’s Morgan Library, site of the exhibition Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth.

But be warned: The collection of Tolkien’s artwork, maps, manuscripts, and memorabilia is in a small space and extremely popular.
