Timing is everything in this world.

For instance, you might be like journalist Adam Higginbotham and publish a nonfiction work on the Chernobyl nuclear disaster just months before HBO produced a smash-hit series on the same topic.

Higginbotham’s book isn’t connected to the show, but it’s hard to imagine that the two aren’t boosting one another.

Dave Davies hosted Higginbotham on Fresh Air to discuss his book, Midnight In Chernobyl: The Untold Story Of The World's Greatest Nuclear Disaster, and our cultural fascination with the event.

You can listen to their conversation below or read a transcript on NPR’s website.
