There are so many amazing puns in this story about the New Hampshire poet laureate controversy.

The headline? “Verse averse.”

The first paragraph? “There are poetry slams, and then there are slammed poets.”

And the actual story: New Hampshire’s governor had wanted Daniel Thomas Moran to serve as the state’s ambassador for poetry.

But many in the literary community criticized Moran’s credentials — or lack thereof  — focusing in particular on his poem imagining a sexual encounter with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

The Associated Press reports that after Slate shared that poem last Thursday, Governor Chris Sununu finally abandoned his case for Moran and said, through a spokesperson, that he’ll submit a different pick.
