A college professor told us once that truly original design doesn’t exist — everything borrows an element or inspiration from something else.

And we’ve all heard the theory that any story can be boiled down to one of seven frameworks.

So it’s not too much of a stretch to consider Susie Kearley’s suggestion that one write a story based off of classic literature — not fan fiction, per se, but a modern retelling that can veer far from the original or stick closely to it.
