Today we’re interviewing Fiona Keane, an award-winning romance author.

Keane is fueled by coffee and rainy days and writes about love because she believes the world needs more of it.

A bibliophile and hopeless romantic, she could spend eternity lost in a story, taken into someone's thoughts while she is left lingering there long after the pages have turned.

SADYE: Tell us something about your writing process that’s unusual or that you haven’t revealed before.

FIONA: I don’t have a consistent pattern to how I write or how I plan.

I try to find a certain spot or perfect drink to accompany me, but it changes with my mood or even the scene I’m writing.

My desk with a vase of peonies and warm sunlight doesn’t mesh with a romantic suspense scene, for example, so sometimes I find myself curled on the couch with a hot cup of coffee instead.

My outlines are the same — I try to have a big idea, or plan with the end in mind, but somewhere along the way I throw it all to the wind and write the scene screaming at me at any given moment.

SADYE: What have been the most surprising, rewarding, and challenging parts of your writing career?

FIONA: I wasn’t prepared for the incredible friendships I would make throughout this process.

The authors and readers I’ve come to know have motivated and inspired me with writing and in life.

I’ve definitely found my tribe, and that’s hard to do for an introvert so I’m never letting these ladies go!

SADYE: What has been the most touching or memorable piece of reader feedback you’ve received?

FIONA: I’ve had some wonderful readers tell me a certain sentence, character, or story was as escape for them.

Knowing my words, which are often cathartic for me, gave the gift of escape for a reader is a treasure I hold sincere and never take for granted.

Also, it’s been empowering to have authors I admire express their belief in me through feedback and guidance, and through both these authors and readers I am able to keep writing.

SADYE: What message or theme would you like readers to take away from your work?

FIONA: I think the dream of a happily-ever-after is an important one to chase because we’re all capable of defining what that is for us, the size of our goal and barriers, how we battle those personal plot holes, and finding a way to achieve our dream.

SADYE: What advice, as relates to your writing career, would you give your younger self?

FIONA: I set out on this journey to write stories that needed to be told, with pieces of me that were therapeutic to whatever was happening in my world.

If I could connect with one reader, the story became something; my words were significant enough to someone else, and knowing something I created could impact another person is an overwhelmingly beautiful feeling.

There will always be negative reviews, certain stories won’t be for everyone, and that’s okay because somewhere, with some of my words, there was one person who connected.

To my younger self, remember the power of words and why you write, because that’s the story.
