Library that holds Melville collection becomes a literary landmark

One more literary-birthday-themed post for the week, and we’re done (until Sunday).

The public library in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, became a literary landmark on Thursday in honor of the 200th anniversary of Herman Melville’s birth.

Melville wrote Moby Dick while living in Pittsfield, whose public library also owns a large collection of Melville memorabilia, including the desk at which "Billy Budd" was written.
