One more literary-birthday-themed post for the week, and we’re done (until Sunday).

The public library in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, became a literary landmark on Thursday in honor of the 200th anniversary of Herman Melville’s birth.

Melville wrote Moby Dick while living in Pittsfield, whose public library also owns a large collection of Melville memorabilia, including the desk at which "Billy Budd" was written.

Read coverage of the official dedication ceremony and learn more about what the literary landmark designation means.
