Did you hit up a fast-food restaurant for breakfast or lunch today? Or is that dinner?

No judgment — after all, if none of us did that, then these chains would cease to exist, and Adam Chandler wouldn’t have written a whole book about their cultural significance.

Drive-Thru Dreams: A Journey Through the Heart of America's Fast-Food Kingdom explores the history of these chains and how our perception of them has evolved over time ... as well as across geography.

Chandler talked with NPR about the book and specifically sections that address the health, environmental, and workplace issues that the industry faces.

You can read interview highlights and an excerpt of Drive-Thru Dreams on NPR’s website.
