Some authors and their illustrators never meet in person.

Meanwhile, children’s writer Andrea Davis Pinkney is married to her illustrator.

She and Brian Pinkney have been together for thirty years, during which time they’ve collaborated on almost twenty books.

They chatted about their most recent one, Martin Rising: Requiem for a King, with NPR’s Lulu Garcia-Navarro while also describing how they keep their personal and professional partnerships intact.
