Caitlin Horrocks has taught fiction and nonfiction writing, in addition to writing short stories and novels herself.

So she’s both seen and experienced the anxiety of writing historical fiction — what if an anachronism slips in? What if a key fact is left out?

Relax, Horrocks says. Specifically, she grants authors five permissions for writing historical fiction, to help them loosen up and focus on their craft.
