In addition to writing mysteries, romance, and nonfiction, Becca Syme works as a writing coach.

And having coached a couple thousand authors at this point, she can identify the most common macro-level problem that they have: when to follow advice.

Syme suggests questioning the premise of tips that you receive — that is, understand whether the source shares your goals and work style.
