Audible has responded in court to a copyright lawsuit brought on behalf of several large publishers.
It filed a legal response Thursday arguing that its Captions feature for audiobooks is protected under fair-use rules and that the technology doesn’t equate to a full ebook.
Specifically — according to ArsTechnica, which reported on the filing — no more than twenty words appear on the screen at once, and they only appear while the audiobook is playing.
A full unveiling of the feature has been postponed until after the lawsuit is settled.
