Repeating yourself may seem like a weakness in your writing.

But writer and professor Gavin Hurley explains that it can be an asset — or sometimes even an essential aspect — to it.

Hurley uses George R.R. Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice to illustrate how a writer can subtly repeat important information in, say, fantasy fiction to gently remind readers of it.

He also shares a simple trick to applying it in nonfiction without insulting your readers.
