Author Patricia Highsmith’s diaries will be shared with the world next year — and no line, no matter how controversial, will be spared.
The Guardian reports that the two diaries, which are more than 8,000 pages long, contain a number of extremely controversial views — antisemitic, racist, and misogynistic ones, to be specific.
Highsmith’s editor believes the author anticipated that, at some point, her papers would become public, which is why they won't be censored.
“The idea was to show how Patricia Highsmith became Patricia Highsmith,” Anna von Planta told the New York Times. “And to have her tell about her life, her thoughts, her concerns, the making of her work, in her own words.”
