Amélie Wen Zhao prepares to release revised version of "Blood Heir"

Earlier this year, author Amélie Wen Zhao revealed that she’d be revising her debut novel, which she’d put on hold after readers raised concerns of racial insensitivity.

The updated version of Blood Heir comes out tomorrow, and Zhao tells NPR’s Lulu Garcia-Navarro that she believes it’s an “even stronger depiction” of the issues she had aimed to confront.

Blood Heir is the story of Ana, a young woman who’s an Affinite — a specific segment of the population that is treated poorly — and who fights against human trafficking and exploitation.
